Description of the project
The thermonet at Mageloese housing association is a way for the private construction project to extract heat from remedial pumping. Remedial drillings were made to avoid pollution from previous military activities, reaching the nearby water wells. As large amounts of groundwater is being pumped through a water treatment plant, the residents are using the heat from the groundwater to their advantage for heating of the houses. The Mageloese housing association consists of 29 private semi-detached houses of 90-180 square meters, and one 350 square meter communal house. The project started in 2018, and the thermonet started operating in november 2019. The thermonet of 2x200 meters, runs like a two-string system in the settlement, supplying individual heat pumps in each house. A heat exchanger is placed in the water treatment plant. Water of eight to ten degrees Celsius is hereby sent to the residences, where the energy for heating is dithdrawn from the water by the heat pumps.

Highlights of the project
In spite of the solution involving relatively many units with its 30 heat pumps, thus being more expensive than fewer and larger heat pumps, this design would have still been chosen even with the knowledge of a year later, to avoid too high a complexitivity. The Municipality of Furesø will include the heating solution at Mageløse housing association in an idea catalogue for the heating plan of the municipality. They are looking into whether they can use heat sources from bodies of water in the same manner as Mageløse has in the thermonet.
The biggest challenges / obstacles
The housing association discovered that the heat pump industry has yet to qualify for and offer alternatives to individual standard solutions. It can be difficult to get developers on board to the idea, as the economic profit lies mainly in the operational costs, rather than the costs of construction. Further supervision of the installation of the heat pumps and plumbing could reduce the challanges experienced by the housing association regarding connection errors.
